The G&W Electric Viper-HV is a 72.5 kV solid dielectric pole-top recloser for sub-transmission overhead line protection without building a substation, sold and supported in Texas and Oklahoma by Ryan Sales.

  • 72.5kV max
  • 350kV BIL
  • 1200/2000A continuous
  • 31.5kA sym interrupting
  • 82kA peak withstand
Overview

The Viper-HV is the first high-voltage (72.5kV) pole-top recloser, delivering overcurrent protection and automatic restoration on sub-transmission lines without building a substation. Its 3-in-1 design integrates the vacuum recloser, current transformers and voltage sensors in one maintenance-free unit with no oil or gas. Rated 1200/2000A continuous with 31.5kA interrupting and a 350kV BIL, it pairs with SEL and Ingeteam relays and mounts phase-over-phase, staggered, horizontal or on crossarms.
