Viper-ST Recloser
The G&W Electric Viper-ST is a 15.5–38 kV independent pole-operated solid dielectric recloser for distribution feeder protection and wildfire mitigation, sold and supported in Texas and Oklahoma by Ryan Sales.
- 15.5/27/29.3/38/40.5kV ratings
- up to 800A continuous
- 12.5/16kA sym interrupting
- 10000 operations
- IEEE C37.60
Overview
The Viper-ST combines vacuum fault interrupters with maintenance-free solid dielectric insulation and offers three operating modes: single-phase trip/single-phase lockout, single-phase trip/three-phase lockout, and three-phase trip/three-phase lockout. Dead-front modules shield energized components for lineman safety and wildfire risk reduction, and up to six internal voltage sensors plus dual-ratio CTs make it fully automation-ready. It mounts in six pole-top configurations as well as substation and padmount styles, and works with SEL, Beckwith, GE, ABB and G&W controls.

Frequently asked questions
Who sells the G&W Electric Viper-ST Recloser in Texas?
Ryan Sales, a manufacturers' representative based in Magnolia, Texas, sells the G&W Electric Viper-ST Recloser and has represented G&W Electric in Texas since 1984. Its regional reps support customers across Texas and Oklahoma. Call (281) 363-1106 or request a quote on this page.
What operating modes does the Viper-ST recloser offer?
The Viper-ST offers three operating modes: single-phase trip/single-phase lockout, single-phase trip/three-phase lockout, and three-phase trip/three-phase lockout. Its independent pole operation provides that flexibility, and it works with SEL, Beckwith, GE, ABB and G&W Electric controls. Up to six internal voltage sensors and dual-ratio CTs make it automation-ready.
How does the Viper-ST differ from the Viper-S?
The Viper-ST is independent pole-operated, allowing single-phase or three-phase trip and lockout, while the Viper-S is mechanically ganged for synchronized three-phase tripping. The Viper-ST offers ratings from 15.5 to 40.5 kV and up to 800 A continuous; the Viper-S covers 12.1 to 38 kV with 630 to 1000 A continuous.
